Easy Pickled Red Onions {with video}


Description

The easiest and most delicious recipe for quick pickled red onions! This recipe makes 1 x 500ml jar. Double up if you like – if you love them like my family does, then they will disappear quick!!!


Ingredients

    • 3 small red onions, thinly sliced
    • ½ cup white spirit vinegar
    • ½ cup hot water
    • 1 tablespoon white sugar
    • ½ tsp black peppercorns (whole) (optional)
    • 2 garlic cloves, whole (optional)


Instructions

  1. Slice the red onions thinly and pack them into a 500ml jar – really squish them all in!
  2. Add the garlic slices and peppercorns.
  3. In a small bowl or jug, mix together the hot water, vinegar and sugar until the sugar dissolves.
  4. Pour the pickling liquid over the onions, making sure they are fully submerged.
  5. Let cool slightly, then seal and refrigerate. They’ll be ready in about 30–60 minutes, and taste even better after a few hours or even overnight.
