Description
A delicious, quick and easy recipe for homemade burger patties. The recipe uses oats and eggs to bind the patties together, making these burger patties high in protein and fibre. Tender and tasty, these are quite possibly the best burger patties you will ever taste!
Ingredients
- 1kg mince
- 1 ½ onions, chopped
- 1 cup oats
- 1/3 cup tomato sauce
- 3 tablespoons fruit chutney (pear, apple, apricot – any will do)
- 2 tablespoons red wine (optional)
- 2 eggs
- 2 ½ teaspoons salt
- ½ tablespoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon Italian herbs (or mix 1 teaspoon of each: thyme, marjoram, parsley) *
For frying
- 2 tablespoon cooking oil (eg. sunflower oil)
- 1 tablespoon butter
For burgers:
- Burger Rolls
- Lettuce
- Tomato
- Cheese
- Sliced onion
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix all ingredients together with a fork until well combined.
- Then, using your hands, shape the mince into medium sized patties – don’t make them too big as they can fall apart when frying.
- Optional step – place patties in the fridge for 15-30 minutes (helps them to keep their shape when cooking)
- In a large frying pan, add the cooking oil and butter and heat on medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the patties and cook for 2-3 minutes per side. You will need to do this in batches and may need to add a splash more oil. Place the cooked patties in a rectangular glass or steel dish and place in the oven on low heat to keep warm whilst you cook the rest of the burger patties.
- Enjoy on a burger bun/roll or simply as is with a side of salad and/or mashed potatoes.
- Notes: You can mix any Italian herbs together – Origanum, Rosemary, Thyme, Parsley, marjoram).
