How to Make a Medium White Sauce

August 24, 2009 by Louise

A classic white sauce is so versatile and can add that little extra to many a meal – such as lasagna, stews, soups and a variety of pasta sauces. Using ingredients that you more than likely have in your cupboard makes this a useful recipe. The recipe makes one cup of medium white sauce.

Ingredients:

2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp flour
1 cup milk
¼ tsp salt
dash white pepper

Method:
  1. Melt butter.
  2. Whisk in flour, salt and pepper until smooth.
  3. Cook until bubbly, about one minute.
  4. Add a little milk and stir. Continue this process until you have used all the milk.
  5. Stir until smooth.
  6. Cook until thickened and smooth.white-sauce
