This is what you call an al fresco dessert. Rustic. Simple. Fuss-free. You could also read that as a lazy Sunday afternoon dessert in which case you would be 100% correct. It isn’t just strawberries and cream. It is Strawberries and Mascarpone Cheese and Greek Yoghurt and Icing Sugar and Whipping Cream. Yup. It’s all that.
What makes it so gorgeous is that it is slightly sweet, but not too sweet, tart but not overly so, and creamy, but not in a heavy kind of way. Such a simple dessert yet so many dichotomies. It is almost poetic….
I am about to get emotional here…*laughs at herself and her dramatic ways*
Guys. But really now, it can elicit some serious happy-content-hormone.
You will be glad to know this recipe is like all the others on this website, in that it is rather effortless, as in you slice strawberries in half, dust with icing sugar, mix all the other ingredients together and uhum, serve.
Raaaadiculous I know.
But now, let’s just say that you have one more minute to spare (clearly I did not have this). And you also have some chocolate in the cupboard (just hypothetically of course because we all know that chocolate never just sits in the cupboard – its sits in our tummies) …you could shave a little and decorate the tops of individual portions of dessert with chocolate shavings. Don’t go over the top either with the shavings, just a little signature-type decoration is enough. Keep it sexy.
*laughs again at herself, oh my, yes Louise, keep the chocolate on the rustic dessert, looking sexy*
My mom just walked in for tea and she said you could even decorate with broken pieces of meringue. YES PLEASE, GOOD IDEA! And it is still in keeping with the rustic nature of the dish.
I would choose this dish for 3 events:
- Casual Christmas Lunch or Dinner
- Valentine’s Day Picnic
- Summertime Al Fresco Lunch #watchthisspace
- Wimbledon Tea or Lunch…only Strawberries and Cream will do dahling!
What event or celebration are you going to make it for?
