4-Ingredient Ginger Shots

Because Winter is virtually here and its the season for flu and all that morbid stuff, I thought (on a happier note) it apt to introduce the juice that will save your soul and sanity from the viral as well as bacterial lurkers of June, July and August. Those party poopers always arrive uninvited so the best antidote, I find, is an onslaught of Ginger and other wonderful flu-fighters. Enter Homemade Ginger Shots (with only 4 ingredients, and an option to supersize them with other ingredients too!)

Whilst my son and husband and babysitter and mom and all my colleagues have been sick this week, I have been frantically making ginger-infused everything, from soup to smoothies and of course, many, many Ginger-shots in an attempt to wield off what feels like an impending doom of flu. However, with much gratitude and surprise, I am still unaffected. The ginger must be maintaining a mini perimeter wall around me or something.

Ginger has incredible anti-inflammatory properties and is also a powerful antioxidant which can help to boost your immune system!! It is also know to help settle upset stomachs and alleviate nausea and other stomach and digestive pain. Hail GINGER!! And let’s admit, that fiery part of Ginger that catches your throat must make them germs squirm?

The recipe below is enough for a weeks worth – the portion size is 150ml and I recommend dividing them up and freezing them individually if you want one each day of the week. Alternately, you can halve the batch or even make the full batch and get your entire family sipping on Ginger superjuice!

Supersize the Shot

To add more superpower to your Ginger shot, you can add any of the following:

  1. Add another 6cm (2 TBS of grated ginger to the recipe)
  2. Add 1 teaspoon of Turmeric to the recipe – whoa!!! (also a POWERFUL antioxidant and anti-inflammatory)
  3. Add 210ml of 100% Orange Juice (this will take your daily Ginger shot to 180ml or so) (Vitamin C)
