This recipe was given to me by my lovely friend Hayley Hooper and it is one of those recipes that you will want to print and keep in your recipe book forever! The patties are so tender and delicious. Thank-you for this Hayley!

Why You will LOVE these homemade beef burger patties:
- They are so TENDER! I have never eaten such a tender beef burger patty, ever!
- There is minimal prep – you basically have to cut 1 1/2 onions and then measure out the ingredients and mix together. (27 words)
- They are extremely tasty – just look at all the yummy ingredients.
- Perfect for serving a crowd – the recipe can be doubled with great success. Burger patties can be fried or baked ahead of time and kept warm in the oven on low heat (under 90°C or 194°F) for 30-60 minutes prior to serving.
- They are high in protein – beef, eggs and rolled oats are all high in protein.

How do you make Beef Burger Patties?
- It is real easy peasy! You basically mix all the ingredients together, then you form the patties. I usually form a ball in my hand, then press it down into a disc or patty shape. If it is too small, I add a little extra patty mixture.
- The secret is to make the patties a little bigger than the size of the burger roll as they will shrink a bit when they cook.
- Also, don’t make the patty too thick otherwise the outside often gets overcooked before the inside is properly cooked.
- Once I have formed all the patties, I place them in the fridge for 15 to 30 minutes. This is an optional step but a step I find helpful nonetheless. Cold patties tend to retain their juiciness and hold their shape better which is useful in the first 1-2 minutes of cooking where the ingredients are the most delicate.
- Fry the patties for 2-3 minutes per side. It may be necessary to do this in 2-3 batches.
- Drain on some paper towel and keep the patties warm in the oven on low heat (under 90°C or 194°F) whilst you cook the remaining patties.
Can you freeze cooked burger patties?
Yes you can! Just cool the burgers completely then wrap in some plastic wrap to avoid freezer burn. Make sure to label and date it. You can keep these for up to 4 months in the freezer and its best to thaw them slowly in the fridge when you are ready to eat them.
Can you Cook these burger patties in the oven instead of frying them?
Yes you can! Just line a baking tray with parchment paper or tinfoil, preheat the oven to 190°C or 375°F and cook the patties for 20-25 minutes, depending on the thickness of the patties and how well you like them done.
What is the secret to a good burger patty?
There are a few! These are my top 3:
- Adding oats to your patty! Think how lovely and creamy oats are when you add liquid to them and cook them! I am going to say that that is secret number one. This patty recipe is incredible and the standout unique ingredient is oats!
- The second secret is the quality of the meat! I would go for a medium fat mince – so not an ultra lean mince as it can result in really dry burger patties. You also don’t want really high-fat mince as it can result in really chewy burgers. So something in-between is good.
- Flavourings such an onion, red wine, herbs and even a chutney are vital for a tasty burger patty!
What to serve with a beef burger?
- Chips / fries is your standard hamburger side dish
- Coleslaw is always lovely with a burger
- A side of onion rings
- A green salad is a good choice for a light side dish

Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix all ingredients together with a fork until well combined.
