Craving a homemade version of your favourite Asian takeout? This Asian Sesame Chicken with Honey Garlic Sauce is crispy, sticky, a little sweet, and absolutely delicious – and it comes together in under 30 minutes!

My 3 boys absolutely LOVE this Asian Sesame Chicken Dish! It is simple-looking (parents of fussy eaters will understand this) and yet the flavours are a total delight! Needless to say, I’ve had to double the recipe every time. And now that I’ve got teenagers with serious appetites, I sometimes triple it!
What to Serve with It:
When it comes to sides, keep things simple as possible. I usually go for:
- A quick cucumber salad: Thinly sliced cucumber, a drizzle of sesame oil, splash of apple cider vinegar, sesame seeds, and a pinch of salt.
- Steamed broccoli or finely chopped cabbage
- And occasionally, roasted eggplant – drizzled with olive oil or sesame oil before roasting. Yes, yes, YES.
Use Sticky Rice!
The best rice to use is sticky rice – I usually go for Jasmine or even Sushi rice! Basmati and regular rice will work perfectly well too.

Why I LOVE this Recipe:
- I love that m family loves it
- Ready in 30 minutes, yeah!
- Crunchy texture but super juicy on the inside
- Delicious honey garlic sesame sauce
- Family-approved (especially by hungry teens!)
- Easy to double for bigger appetites

Description
An explosion of sweet, tangy and savoury flavours, this Asian inspired sesame chicken with honey garlic sauce is a thrill for the tastebuds! The meal comes together in under 30 minutes, making it a great option for a weeknight dinner!
Ingredients
Chicken:
- ¼ cup cooking oil
- 2 eggs, lightly beaten
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch (cornflour)
- ½ cup flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon cracked black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons paprika
- 4 chicken breasts, chopped into cubes
Sauce:
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil,
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar (or white wine vinegar)
- 1 ½ tablespoons honey
- 1 ½ tablespoons sweet chilli sauce
- 3 tablespoons tomato sauce (ketchup)
- 6 tablespoons soy sauce
Garnish
- 2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds
- 4 spring onions, chopped
Instructions
- In a medium-sized bowl, add the cornflour. In another bowl, whisk the eggs. In a third bowl, add the flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder and paprika and mix together. You will now have 3 bowls!
- Next step is to coat the chicken pieces in the cornflour, then dip into the egg mixture and then coat with the seasoned flour mixture.
- Once the chicken is all coated, heat the oil in a wok or large frying pan over high heat. Once the oil is simmering hot, add the chicken pieces and cook for 5-6 minutes, turning pieces once or twice until browned all over and cooked through. You may need to do this in 2 batches. Remove chicken and set aside.
- Add the sauce ingredients to the wok, and allow it to reduce slightly, about 2-3 minutes or so. Now add the chicken back to the wok and heat through, tossing the pieces in the sauce to coat evenly, 1-2 minutes.
- Serve over a bed of rice, garnished with a generous serving of sesame seeds (around ½ a tablespoon) and chopped spring onions. Enjoy!
