This is one of my favourite meals, simple Baked Trout with a simple lemon butter garlic sauce! It is so simple yet SO flavourful and healthy too! I could eat it just like this, right off the baking tray with a few salad greens.
If you are feeding your family especially young kids, you can add in some baby potatoes and coleslaw or a side of warm vegetables for extra calories and fibre. If you don’t fancy potatoes, rice or cous cous works well too, especially when it’s soaking up the lemon butter garlic sauce. Yum!
In fact, you could actually double up on the sauce ingredients (which is everything besides the Trout fillet) and use that to pour over the rice or cous cous or potatoes. A worthy idea just in case you’re in the mood for a little extra sauce. I do love a little extra sauce!
How do You know when Trout is Done?
I usually pull the baking tray out the oven and then using a fork, pull apart a little of the Trout in the middle. If it is still a translucent pink colour then I know it needs another 5 minutes or so. It should ideally be a solid pink colour, showing that it is cooked. You really don’t want to overcook it otherwise it can go dry and lacks that juicy flavour. If your oven is pre-heated to 180 degrees Celsius or 350 degrees Fahrenheit, the Trout should only take 12-15 minutes to cook.

What Should I Serve Baked Trout with?
- Starches: Baked Baby Potatoes, Mashed Potatoes, Cous Cous or Rice
- Sides: Coleslaw, Geen Salad, Mashed Butternut and Creamed Spinach, Minty Peas, Glazed Carrots

Description
This is an easy, healthy recipe for baked trout (or salmon) fillets. The lemon butter garlic sauce is prepared very quickly and the fish only take 12-15 minutes to cook. Try this baked trout recipe for a flaky, tender texture and incredible flavours.
Ingredients
- 1 medium to large fillet of trout or salmon
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley (or 1 teaspoon dried)
- 1 tablespoon fresh dill (or 1 teaspoon dried)
- 1 garlic clove, grated
- Salt and pepper
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius (350F).
- Place the Trout fillet (or Salmon) on a baking tray.
- In a glass jug or microwaveable bowl, melt the butter in the microwave.
Add the lemon juice, parsley, dill, garlic, a pinch of salt and a little freshly cracked black pepper to the melted butter. Stir to combine. - Using a fork, poke a few holes along the length of the fillet and then pour the sauce over the fillet. Some of the sauce will run off – you can try and collect the excess sauce and spoon over the fillet again. The little holes you made with the fork will help absorb the sauce.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the fish has cooked through (the fish should be a solid pink and not translucent). Be careful not to overcook.
- Garnish with a slice of lemon and extra parsley. Serve with rice, mashed potato or baked potatoes.
