Sometimes you just get those recipes that you think about for days! They are so delicious, so easy and so simple that you just can’t believe a recipe like this exists! This Creamy Garlic Chicken recipe is one of them. And I’m not even a big chicken eater! My entire family including the fussy ones, absolutely LOVED it! Hooray! I love it when everyone loves the same meal, don’t you? It is a true #winningatlife moment.
How to Make Creamy Garlic Chicken?
- It is real easy – first you slice each chicken breast in half across its side so that you create 2 thin cutlets of chicken. This helps it cook quickly.
- Secondly, you dust the chicken with flour and spices (see recipe card below for more detail). I use my fingers to press the spices and flour into the flesh so it stays there!
- Thirdly, you fry the chicken until beautifully browned and cooked through – then remove from the pan and set aside.
- Now we make the amazing sauce! In the same pan, I might add (yay!). Add the butter and garlic, get that a little fragrant then add the salt and chicken stock. Let it simmer away until the liquid has reduced by half. Then you add the cream and stir in the mustard, let the flavours meld for 1-2 minutes before finally adding the parmesan cheese.
- Lastly, you add the chicken back to the pan just long enough to heat through
- Dishing up time! Serve over a bed of mashed potatoes (or pasta or rice or cous cous) and then a side of something green! Beans, Baby Marrows or Broccoli.
- Oh, and throw a little fresh parsley over the sauce if you have – just because it looks real pretty. And, the lemon, how could I forget the lemon! A squeeze of fresh lemon over the sauce and the beans, and even the mash, take this Creamy Garlic Chicken up to 10/10.

Description
An easy recipe for spice-encrusted chicken breasts which are then fried in olive oil and butter and then drizzled with a creamy garlic sauce and a squeeze of lemon juice. Served over a bed of mashed potatoes or pasta, this creamy garlic chicken recipe will have you coming back for more! It is the perfect weeknight meal for the whole family, coming together in 20-30 minutes!
Ingredients
Chicken
- 3 large chicken breasts, cut in half, horizontally to create 6 thin cutlets
- ½ teaspoon cracked black pepper
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 ½ teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- ¼ cup flour
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 lemon, cut into wedges for serving
- 1–2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped, for garnishing (optional)
Garlic Sauce
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 3 large garlic cloves (or 6 small cloves)
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup chicken stock
- 300ml cream
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- ½ cup parmesan, grated
Instructions
- In a large baking tray, lay out the chicken cutlets and sprinkle with black pepper, salt, paprika, onion powder, thyme and flour. I recommend pressing the spices and flour into the chicken breasts so that they don’t all fall off when you turn them in the pan!
- In a medium-sized frying pan, add the olive oil and butter and heat over medium-high heat. Once the butter has melted, add the chicken breasts and cook for 4-5 minutes, turning once halfway through. Remove chicken from the pan and set aside.
- Make the sauce. In the same pan, over medium heat, add the butter and garlic and cook for a minute or so, until fragrant. Stir in the salt and chicken stock and cook for around 2 minutes, allowing the liquid to reduce by half.
- Add the cream and mustard and stir to combine. Reduce the heat and allow to simmer for 1-2 minutes.
- Stir in the parmesan cheese, add any salt or pepper to your preference and then add the chicken back to the pan for 2 or so minutes to heat through.
- Serve over a bed of creamy mashed potatoes or pasta with a wedge of lemon (for squeezing over the chicken) and a sprinkle of fresh parsley. Include a side of greens such a steamed broccoli or green beans! Yum!
